History
The club was first formed with the name of Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club (Newton Heath L & YR FC) in 1878 by railroad workers in Newton Heath.
They play in a small field on North Road, near Manchester Piccadilly railway station for 15 years, before moving to Bank Street in the nearby town of Clayton in 1893. Costume team green gold.
The team has become a member of the Football League the previous year (1891-1892) and began to sever its links with the railway station, became an independent company, appointing a secretary of the association, and remove the last name "L & YR" became Newton Heath FC alone.
In 1902, the team was almost bankrupt with debts of over £ 2500. Field Back Street they have been closed. Before the team broke up, they receive the investment from JH Davies, director of Manchester Breweries.
Initially, the team captain, Harry Stafford, showing off the dog St. Bernard hers. later, Davies decided to buy a dog. Stafford declined, but he was able to persuade Davies to invest for the team and became chairman of the team.
After that, they held a meeting to change the name of the club. Manchester Central and Manchester Celtic is the name proposed. However, Louis Rocca, a young immigrant from Italy, proposed the name of Manchester United.
Rocca's proposal was approved and officially adopted the name of Manchester United on April 26, 1902. Davies also decided to change team colors from green to red and white gold as Manchester United's team colors.
In the 1905-1906 season, they finally promotion to Division I after finishing second ranked Division II (photo above). Their first season in Division I ranks 8th in the standings. In the end, they won the first league title in 1908.
Two years later, they won the League trophy in Division I for the second time in the 1910-1911 season. United moved to their new ground at Old Trafford. They play the first match at Old Trafford on February 19, 1910 against Liverpool
